Spartan RV Chassis and Love's Travel Stops Just Teamed Up

If you have never owned a big diesel pusher, here is the thing nobody warns you about. Driving the coach is the easy part. You quickly discover that finding a quality place to get service is not easy at all. Forty-five feet of motorhome will roll into most RV service bays, but the tech takes one look at the air brakes, the tag axle, and the long wheelbase, and then politely suggests you find a truck shop. So you call the truck shop, they ask whether it is a Freightliner or a Spartan, and when you say Spartan there is sometimes a pause.

We know that pause well. Wild Blue Yonder, our 2021 Entegra Aspire 44W, rides on a Spartan K2 tag-axle chassis. That chassis is a big part of why the coach drives the way it does, and it is also the part of the rig that has some times sent us hunting for a qualified shop in an unfamiliar town.

This was one of our worries when we moved from the Freightliner chassis under our old Fleetwood to the Spartan under the Entegra. Luckily that concern has been a bit overblown so far, since we have not yet needed emergency service.

So this one got our attention. Spartan RV Chassis just announced a service partnership with Love's Travel Stops. The short version is that Spartan owners can now get professional chassis work done at Love's Truck Care locations around the country, and the work is done to Spartan's own specifications.

The partnership runs through AtlasCare, which is Spartan's support and service program. AtlasCare already came with around-the-clock support and a network north of 500 authorized service locations. Folding in Love's adds a name that has been a fixture at interstate exits for decades, with more than 670 stops spread across 42 states. That is a lot of new yellow-and-red dots on the map.

Here is what the participating Love's Truck Care locations will actually handle: Full maintenance packages, chassis inspections, lubrication service, and precision wheel alignment, all to Spartan's standards. The alignment piece alone is worth the price of admission. Long-wheelbase alignment on a tag-axle coach is genuinely hard to find.

The logic behind picking Love's makes sense once you stop thinking of it as a fuel stop. Love's Truck Care has spent years working on heavy commercial trucks, which means the systems on a premium Class A chassis are not foreign to them. Brakes, suspension, steering, axles, tires, and that tricky long-wheelbase alignment are all everyday work for these crews.

That said, we keep our expectations in check. Finding a good mechanic for service work is hard, and for us the RV dealerships have rarely yielded good results. We have even run into trouble at actual Cummins shops working on our own Cummins engine and generator. A Spartan-certified shop, whether it is a Cummins location, an RV dealership, or a Love's, is only as good as the training and experience of the technicians who happen to be on duty. So for us this will be a wait-and-see game.

There is a camping angle here too. Love's has been growing its RV Stops side, now past 130 locations, with overnight hookups, Wi-Fi, electric and water, and dump stations. Some of the nicer ones throw in sport courts, fire pits, and grills. And because it is Love's, you can book, pay for, and even switch on your amenities right from the Rewards app on your phone.

Not every Love's will be a Spartan service point on day one, so this is a check-the-map-before-you-need-it situation, not a roll-into-any-exit guarantee. And we will reserve real judgment until we have actually handed Wild Blue Yonder's keys to one of these crews and watched what comes back.

But the direction is the right one. The hardest part of owning a coach like ours has never been breakdowns. It has been the not knowing where to take it for quality service when something needs attention three states from home. If Spartan and Love's pull this off, that map gets a whole lot friendlier.

For now, we will keep taking Wild Blue Yonder to our regular shop for routine work. But it is great to know there will be more emergency options out there if we ever need them. We will report back the first time we put one to the test. Until then, we will keep one eye on the road and one on the service-locator list.
